dabji Privacy Policy
Changmin Park (박창민), an individual developer (“we”, “us”), operates dabji (iOS and Android, the “App”), a mobile app that solves the question in a photo entirely on your device. In accordance with Article 30 of the Personal Information Protection Act of the Republic of Korea, we publish this policy to protect your personal information and to handle related concerns promptly and smoothly.
Summary
- The App has no accounts, and we run no servers. We do not collect or store your personal information.
- Your photos, questions and solutions are processed only on your device and never leave it.
- However, the Google AdMob ads SDK built into the App sends device, app and ad interaction information to Google when it loads ads. The App does not use advertising identifiers, and every ad request is sent as child-directed, non-personalized and rated for general audiences.
- In the Android app, Google ML Kit, which finds text in the photo, sends feature diagnostics to Google. The photo itself is not sent.
- When the solver model is first downloaded, the App connects to the server that hosts the model file (Hugging Face).
1. Purposes of processing
We do not collect or hold personal information ourselves. Information sent to third parties while you use the App (the ads SDK, the text recognition SDK and the model hosting server) is processed only for the purposes below. If a purpose changes, we will take the necessary steps, such as asking for separate consent under Article 18 of the Personal Information Protection Act.
- Showing ads — showing non-personalized ads, confirming that a rewarded ad was watched to the end (to give you solves), preventing invalid traffic and ad fraud, measuring ad performance, and deciding the privacy treatment that applies in your region
- Text recognition diagnostics (Android) — diagnosing errors and performance of the feature that finds the question in a photo, and usage statistics
- Downloading the solver model — delivering the model file that solves questions on your device
2. Information processed and how it is collected
2.1 Personal information we collect
None. The App has no sign-up or login, and it never asks for your name, age, grade, contact details or anything else.
2.2 Information that is processed only on your device
The information below is processed only on your device and is not sent to anyone, including us.
| Information | How it is used | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Photos you take with the camera or pick with the system photo picker | Finding the question and passing it to the solver model | Not stored. Processed only in the App’s memory, never saved to a file and never included in device backups. Discarded when you take a new photo or close the App |
| Question text read from the photo, and the result (thinking, solution and answer) | Shown on screen | Not stored (same as above) |
| Solves left, and App settings such as whether you have seen a notice | Recorded in the App’s storage on the device | Deleted when you delete the App |
| Solver model file (about 3GB) | Kept in the App’s storage on the device | Can be deleted from the App info screen; deleted when you delete the App |
2.3 Information sent by the ads SDK
To show ads, the App includes Google LLC’s Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) and its consent management tool (User Messaging Platform, UMP). When it requests ads, and when it checks consent information just before, the SDK automatically sends the information below to Google. We do not receive or store this information.
| Category | Items |
|---|---|
| Device information | Device model and manufacturer, operating system and version, language and region settings, screen size and orientation, and similar |
| Device identifiers | Identifiers scoped to the app or developer only (not advertising identifiers) |
| App information | App identifier (bundle ID or package name), app version, ads SDK version |
| Network information | IP address (may be used to estimate your country or general region), network type |
| Ad interactions | Ad requests, impressions and clicks, whether a rewarded ad was watched to the end, ad unit identifiers |
| Diagnostics | Ads SDK errors and performance, app launch time, and similar |
- What is not sent: advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, the advertising ID on Android). The App does not show the iOS App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, and the advertising ID permission (
AD_ID) has been removed from the Android app. The content of photos, questions and solutions, and your precise location (the App does not ask for location permission), are not sent either. - Ad placements and when information is sent: the App has a rewarded ad on the solves screen, which you choose to watch, and one banner on the solution screen. Information is sent when you open the solution screen (banner ad), when the solves screen loads an ad, when the camera screen prepares a rewarded ad in advance, and just before that, when the consent tool checks which treatment applies in your region. Nothing is sent while the device is offline.
- Request settings: regardless of your age, every ad request is tagged as child-directed (tag for age treatment: CHILD), non-personalized, and limited to maximum ad content rating G (general audiences). Ads based on your behavior are therefore never shown.
- Users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland: users in these regions are also treated as under the age of consent, so the App does not ask them for ad consent. In these regions Google may show “limited ads” that do not use personal data for personalization, and may store information on the device that is needed to prevent invalid traffic (section 9).
- Google handles the information it receives under the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
2.4 Information sent by text recognition on Android (ML Kit)
The Android app uses Google LLC’s ML Kit text recognition to find the question in a photo. Text recognition runs on the device, but for feature diagnostics and usage statistics ML Kit sends the following to Google when the App looks for a question in a photo: device and app information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, feature settings such as image format and size, and error codes. The photo itself is not sent. The iOS app uses the operating system’s on-device text recognition (Apple Vision), which sends nothing.
2.5 Information sent when the solver model is downloaded
When you first use the App (and when you delete the model and download it again), the solver model file is downloaded from servers run by Hugging Face, Inc. (huggingface.co). Standard server access records such as your IP address, request time and app (client) information may be kept on those servers. No account or access token is used, and nothing other than the model file is exchanged.
3. Processing and retention period
- Because we do not collect or hold personal information, there is no personal information we keep and no retention period.
- Information stored on the device (solves left, App settings, the solver model file) is deleted when you delete the App.
- Information sent to Google and Hugging Face under sections 2.3 to 2.5 is kept for the periods set out in each company’s privacy policy.
4. Sharing with third parties
We do not provide or sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not share it for personalized advertising. Section 5 explains the information that the ads SDK, the text recognition SDK and the model hosting server receive directly.
5. Outsourcing and transfers abroad
While you use the App, information is transferred to companies outside Korea as follows (Article 28-8 of the Personal Information Protection Act).
| Recipient | Country | Information | When and how | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google LLC — AdMob and consent management (UMP) 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA Privacy Policy |
USA and other countries where Google has servers | Items in section 2.3 | Sent automatically over encrypted connections when ads are requested and when consent information is checked just before | Showing ads (section 1.1) | Under Google’s Privacy Policy |
| Google LLC — ML Kit text recognition (Android only) Address as above |
USA and other countries where Google has servers | Items in section 2.4 | Sent automatically over encrypted connections when the App looks for a question in a photo | Text recognition diagnostics (section 1.2) | Under Google’s Privacy Policy |
| Hugging Face, Inc. USA Privacy Policy |
USA | Items in section 2.5 | Sent automatically over encrypted connections when the solver model is downloaded (including downloading it again) | Delivering the model file (section 1.3) | Under Hugging Face’s Privacy Policy |
- How to refuse the transfer: you can keep solving with your remaining solves while the device is offline. No ads are shown and none of the information above is sent. Getting more solves (by watching an ad) and downloading the solver model require an internet connection. If you do not want any of this information sent, you can stop using the App and delete it.
- We do not outsource any other processing of personal information. If we ever do, we will name the contractor and the work in this policy.
6. Your rights and how to exercise them
- You may at any time ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to stop its processing. The same applies to the rights given by the law where you live (for example, the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or US state privacy laws). Because we hold no personal information, there is no information these rights apply to, but you can contact us using the details in section 12.
- You can delete the information stored on your device yourself. The solver model can be removed with “Delete model” on the App info screen, and everything, including your solves and App settings, is removed when you delete the App.
- Rights over information sent to Google and Hugging Face can be exercised through the methods in the Google Privacy Policy and the Hugging Face Privacy Policy. Contact us and we will tell you how.
- A parent or legal guardian of a child under 14 may exercise these rights on the child’s behalf.
- Requests can be made in writing, by email or by similar means under Article 41 of the Enforcement Decree of the Personal Information Protection Act, and we will act on them without delay.
7. Deletion
- Because we hold no personal information, there is nothing for us to delete.
- Information on the device (solves left, App settings, the solver model file) is deleted by the operating system when you delete the App. Photos and results are never stored, and they are cleared from memory when you take a new photo or close the App.
8. Security measures
- On-device processing: photos, questions and solutions are processed only on the device and are never stored or sent. We run no servers.
- Encrypted connections: communication by the ads SDK and the text recognition SDK, and model downloads, are encrypted with HTTPS.
- Minimum permissions: the only permissions the App asks you to allow are the camera and notifications (Android, to show model download progress). It does not ask for location, contacts or access to your whole photo library. Only the one photo you pick in the system photo picker is passed to the App (section 11).
- Excluded from backups: the Android app’s data is excluded from device backups.
- No advertising identifiers: as described in section 2.3, the App does not use advertising identifiers and sends every ad request as child-directed and non-personalized.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
- The App is not a web service and does not use cookies.
- The ads SDK built into the App may use device storage and app- or developer-scoped identifiers to show ads and prevent invalid traffic, and it automatically collects and sends the information in section 2.3 when it requests ads. What it stores on the device is deleted when you delete the App. If you do not want it sent, you can use the methods in section 5 (going offline, or deleting the App).
- The App includes no other analytics or crash reporting tools. Diagnostics sent by the text recognition SDK on Android are described in section 2.4.
10. Children under 14
- Anyone, including elementary, middle and high school students, can use the App. There is no sign-up and no age check.
- We do not collect personal information from children under 14. Because we collect no personal information, there is no process for obtaining consent from a parent or legal guardian.
- Regardless of age, every ad request is tagged as child-directed, so advertising identifiers and ads based on behavior are not used, and ad content is limited to general audiences. Users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are also treated as under the age of consent (section 2.3).
- A parent or legal guardian of a child under 14 can contact us with questions or requests about the child’s personal information using the details in section 12.
11. App permissions
| Permission | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Optional | To take a photo of a question. If you decline, you can still solve a photo picked with the photo picker. |
| Photos | Not requested | The App uses the system photo picker, so it does not ask for access to your whole photo library. Only the photo you pick is passed to the App. |
| Notifications (Android) | Optional | To show progress in a notification while the solver model downloads. If you decline, the download continues. |
| Internet and network state | — | Used only to download the solver model, request ads, check whether you are online, and send text recognition diagnostics on Android. Not used to solve questions. |
